Manohar Parrikar’s relationship is with the Goa state of India and he was born in 1952 in Mapusa village of this state. At the same time he got his education from Loyola High School in the state. After finishing his 12th standard, he had joined the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai and from here he completed his engineering studies. At the same time Parrikar also speaks Hindi and English language besides Marathi language.

Parrikar’s wife dead after sometime after becoming Chief Minister of Goa. His wife’s name was Megha Parrikar and Parrikar and Megha Parrikar married in the year 1981. Parrikar has two Sons. Of which the first Son is Utpal Parrikar, while the other boy’s name is Abhijit Parrikar. Both Parrikar’s children have nothing to do with politics. Parrikar had joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his school days. Along with his studies he started working for the RSS branch of the youth. After passing the school, he started his engineering studies. After completing these studies, once again he started serving the RSS. After which he got an opportunity to become a member of the BJP party and also contested for the first time from the BJP party. BJP gave tickets to Parrikar to contest the assembly elections from Goa’s Panji(Goa’s State Capital) seat in 1994. Parrikar got the victory in this election. But BJP could not do anything in these elections. Parrikar also played the role of Leader of the Opposition in Goa Assembly.

In the assembly elections held in Goa in 2000, the BJP got the support of the BJP and the BJP got the chance to come to power in Goa. While coming to power, the BJP chose Parrikar as the Chief Minister of this state. On October 24, Parrikar started his work as the Chief Minister of Goa. However Parrikar’s family situation was not going well at that time and his wife Megha Parrikar was suffering from cancer. Just a year after Parrikar became the Chief Minister, his wife said goodbye to this world. After the wife’s departure, Parrikar played the role of chief minister of Goa as well as the responsibility of his children in a very good manner.

But for some reason, his tenure could not last long and he had to leave his chair on February 27, 2002. On 5th June 2002, he was again elected as the Chief Minister.


Political Journey from chief minister to country’s defence minister

In the assembly elections held in 2005, BJP lost and Parrikar had to leave the post of chief minister. After which the BJP party won again in the elections held in Goa in the year 2012 and again the BJP converted Parrikar to the Chief Minister. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won the party and the party would become its government at the center.
